Stop by stop
Six stops to the fire finale
A luau built around a working imu on Oʻahu's west shore, from the drive out to the last flame on the sand.
- The drive west
Out along the leeward coast
Whether you drive yourself or take the optional pickup, the evening starts with the trip out from Waikiki toward Kapolei's beachfront.
- At the gate
A shell lei and open seating
Your voucher carries the check-in time; check in there for your shell lei, then find a spot in the unreserved seating — arrival order decides where you land.
- The imu opens
The pig comes up from the ground
The underground imu is uncovered and the kalua pig it's been cooking is carried out ahead of the buffet — the evening's first real spectacle.
- The buffet
An all-you-can-eat spread
Kalua pig, lomilomi salmon, Hawaiian pulehu chicken and more come out buffet-style, with soft drinks, coffee and a drink ticket or two depending on your option.
- Five island nations
Hawaiʻi, Tahiti, Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand
The Polynesian Review carries the night through music and dance from across the Pacific, one nation at a time.
- The finale
Fire on the sand
The night closes with a Samoan fire-knife dance, the blades lit and spinning as the last act before the drive back.
Transport from Waikiki is an optional add-on with two meeting points rather than a door-to-door service — check which one applies to the option you book.
Kapolei's stretch of West Oʻahu
Kapolei's stretch of West Oʻahu
From the other side of the island to Kapolei
Germaine's began in the early 1970s elsewhere on Oʻahu, then moved to this beachfront stretch of West Oʻahu in 1976. The grounds were once the seaside home of Rosalei and William Stephenson, a family remembered locally for hosting Hawaiian gatherings here long before it became a nightly luau.
Built on former cane fields
Kapolei was designated Oʻahu's planned second urban centre in 1977 and grew up on land that had been sugarcane and pineapple fields, much of it once part of the Campbell Estate. The town takes its name from Puʻu o Kapolei, a volcanic cone with its own place in Hawaiian legend.
Near Barber's Point, 27 miles from Waikiki
The property sits on a quiet oceanfront stretch near the Barber's Point lighthouse, about 27 miles west of Waikiki along Oʻahu's leeward coast — close enough for an evening out, far enough to feel like a different side of the island.
A shoreline worth the drive
The waters along this stretch once teemed with fish before the surrounding area was built up, and the beachfront setting is part of why the luau has stayed on the same property for decades rather than moving into a hotel ballroom.
